The use of ephemeral (or "temporary") environments is easily the most impactful practice that has co-evolved with serverless technologies. It allows developers to work on their features without stepping on each other's toes; it eliminates the problem of data pollution caused by tests; and there is no additional costs for using ephemeral environments when you're using serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway and DynamoDB!

This video explains the concept of ephemeral environments - what they are, how are "environments" different from AWS accounts, and why you should use ephemeral environments. It also explains how to make your application compatible with ephemeral environments and the pitfalls to avoid.
