This workshop is one of the online workshop series on “The Spatial Study of Chinese Religions and Society” supported by the Henry Luce Foundation. The workshop introduced two spatial research methods, the Two Step Floating Catchment Area (2SFCA) and the Network Analysis Method (NAM), to examine the church accessibility scores and church shortage degrees. The multi-methods research can help audiences visually measure and compare the driving time and the geographic areas between the designated locations to understand their church accessibility and church shortage. The workshop covered the following subjects: 1) introducing the 2SFCA and NAM assisted by the user's manual; 2) demonstrating how to apply the two methods to measure church accessibility and church shortage through hands-on practice focusing on the thirty-one provincial capital cities of China; and 3) discuss why church accessibility and church shortage are vital in understanding Chinese religious market and religious economy.
