Hello and welcome to Day 16 - How To Handle Static Dropdown Selenium Webdriver

I continue with teaching myself Selenium Webdriver with Java and I hope you all Test Analyst in particular are getting engaged as we go along for the next five years test automation will be the corner stone for all things test methodologies and test frameworks continuous integration and continuous deployment

With this video we are learning about static dropdown in selenium

What is a static dropdown?

To identify which dropdown is a static dropdown when you inspect the element and notice the line of HTML code has a TagName of select, then you are indeed dealing with a static dropdown

The example website we used to demonstrate static dropdown is facebook and we used the birthday day for our live example

Selenium group have come up with a class called select class which has all the methods to use when interacting with static dropdown on a web page, you can see my blog for the regular class creation select syntax

Once you have the syntax and you have imported the select package you will need to pass the identifier of the location of your static dropdown into the argument in the syntax

Use any locator strategy to identify location of dropdown on web page and pust the into the argument for the select syntax

We use xpath for the above and it worked just fine and went ahead to use select methods to interact with our dropdown on the web page

List of the main methods present in the select class to automate static drop down
-selectByIndex();
-selectByVisibleText();
-selectByValue();
