Since Java 8 is not installed by default on Linux how it seems, I'm showing you how to do it easily. This is required to run all of my programs for example since they usually require Java 8 to run and will not run on Java 7 or below. The JDK also allows you to develop in Java but if you don't care about that, you can install the JRE the same way instead to "save" some MBs.
Updating package information:
sudo apt-get update
Installing the JDK:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk
Checking the Java version:
java -version
JDK home directory:
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-amd64/bin
