The two main Earth centered inertial frames are the equatorial and ecliptic. Both of them share a common X-axis pointing toward the vernal equinox at the J2000 epoch. This video goes into the details of how the equatorial and ecliptic planes are defined, and how you use that information to define the reference frames.
