in this video chris explores the new javascript types proposal where typescript types are proposed to be made part of the ECMAscript standard and become part of the javascript language. The most requested feature of the JavaScript state of JS survey is being proposed to TC39 for consideration to become part of the JavaScript standard. The question is.. is static types a good thing for JavaScript? Do we really live in a world of evergreen browsers and can a build step be truly skipped and could this be supported without transpiling
not only do we explore the proposal, chris gives a brief tutorial of typescript types and how typescript files are converted to javascript. we then look at what TS types are and how that would work in Javascript and how that compares to JSDoc comments. Finally we explore if bringing ts types to js would really eliminate build steps in the near future by looking at the browser versions used across the world.
