An Intro to DevOps - Live Coding a Sample DevOps Workflow
“Building the plane while flying it… live coding a sample DevOps workflow”
DevOps has become a prized keyword in competitive buzzword bingo, but at its core is just focused on how to more effectively build and run software. This can take many forms and can be intimidating to get started, but in this session, we will break down and live code a sample DevOps workflow.
Starting from scratch, we will create an HTML presentation with remark.js, use docker to containerize it with a Caddy web server, set up a Github Action workflow to handle continuous integration, and finally deploy to a Digital Ocean virtual machine!
DevOps is a lucrative field but also a great thing to know for any web developers so they can really take ownership of the end to end solution.
We will learn how to:
Dockerize an app
GitHub Actions
Continuous Integration
Deployment to a server (Digital Ocean)
