In this video the line guide placing in the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is shown.

Guides are useful for dividing images in rectilinear sections. They can be used to localize proportions more easily by using delineated images as references for illustrations. They are also used for placing elements more easily while compositing stills and video frames. In web design prototypes, it serves to locate divisions within the webpage. In general, they serve to keep track of positions that may be useful in various layers.

We open our image, add some guides, and later delete them. Then we learn to use the calculator to divide the horizontal dimension(x) into 3 sections; and the vertical dimension(y) into 4 sections.
We also explore the preferences of the fullscreen mode, to check if guides visualization is selected.
Ctrl+Shift+e(GIMP 2.6.12) or Ctrl+Shift+j(GIMP 2.8.2) is the keyboard shortcut used for zooming the image view to fit in the client space of the window or screen(if in fullscreen mode.)
