CSS specificity is a way to determine which CSS rules are applied to an element when there are conflicting styles defined for that element. It is a scoring system that assigns a numerical value to each selector based on its level of specificity.

The specificity of a selector is calculated by counting the number of ID, class, and element selectors in the CSS rule. The more specific the selector is, the higher its specificity score.

Here is how specificity is calculated:

For each ID selector, add 100 points.
For each class selector, attribute selector, or pseudo-class selector, add 10 points.
For each element selector or pseudo-element selector, add 1 point.

For example, the selector #header .logo img has a specificity score of 111 because it contains one ID selector, one class selector, and one element selector.

When two or more conflicting styles are defined for an element, the browser uses the style with the highest specificity. If two styles have the same specificity, the one that appears last in the CSS file or in the HTML document will be applied.

It is important to understand CSS specificity to write efficient and effective CSS code and avoid unexpected styling issues.
