HTML5 Tutorial: HTML5 b Tag
In this HTML5 tutorial, we take a look that HTML5 b element which is used to show a different style text to the user. This element is often display keywords in a summary, product name, or other content that the author wants to display differently. The HTML5 b element shows importance to the readers of an article but when search engines do not take the b tag into consideration. If you would like to show importance to a user and to a search engine you want to use the HTML strong tag. Now the b element and the strong element are displayed to the user the same the difference is how the semantic information is understood by web crawlers.
If you would like to show importance to your readers only then I would use the HTML5 b element. If you would like to show the importance to the user and the web crawler then I would use the HTML strong element. If you have seen some of the tutorials you may have noticed that we bold a keyword using the strong element in each tutorial this shows the search engines that our tutorial is about the bolder text. Does this really help with search engines? A lot of the SEO pros I know say it helps, but it is not going to put you on the first page because you add a HTML5 strong tag to your content. I suggest that you do not over bold your text either this could be annoying to your readers and search engines may look at your content as spam.
