Lesson Description:
We discuss semantics. We learn how and why we should use semantic HTML.
Terminology:
Semantic - Related to meaning in language or logic.
Semantic HTML - An HTML element that clearly describes its meaning to both the web developer and the browser. It is important to use semantic HTML whenever possible because it assists screen readers, which are used by visually impaired individuals, and also allows your webpages to rank higher in search engine results.
Search Engine - Computer program that ranks and categorizes webpages from the World Wide Web by their content so that they can be easily found with a simple search. Using semantic HTML assists these search engines in ranking and categorizing your webpages.
SEO - SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. It is the act of optimizing your webpage (often through the use of semantic HTML) to rank higher on search results pages for search engines such as Google or Bing.
