The results of our Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) sandbox testing are in! The collaborative tests with 18 central and commercial banks demonstrated clear value in a pioneering new solution to enable global interoperability between CBDC networks and existing payment systems for cross-border transactions.

With over 110 countries now exploring a digital currency, and 11 already live, this timely work is key in reducing fragmentation and addressing the risk of unconnected ‘digital islands’ forming around the world.

In this edition, our Head of Innovation, Nick Kerigan, spoke to Alexandra Elisa Thomé, Senior Expert Digital Euro at Deutsche Bundesbank, about her experience working alongside the 18 commercial and central banks that participated in our ground-breaking CBDC sandbox tests.
