Advanced FileZilla Usage: Directory Comparison & Synchronized Browsing

Most people who have been using FTP in the last 20 years have used FileZilla at least once. But most users aren't aware of the full power of FileZilla.
So with that in mind, let's dive in and talk about some of the oft missed powerful features of FileZilla that are sure to delight.
Let's start with directory comparison. This feature makes it easy to identify files and directories that are different on the FTP server than on your local file system.
To use directory comparison, click on the view menu item, and then enable it.
You'll see a few options here. The first is compare file size. Provided your local file system has the same directory and file structure as the FTP server.
You'll see files that are a different size in red and items that are not present on both sides as yellow.
The second option is compare modification time. This is helpful to see at a glance when files have been modified on a server or your local file system based on modified date.
Items in green show the most recent version of the file and items in yellow shows items that aren't either on the server or locally. You can also check the hide identical files option, if you want to see only files that have a different modified date.
If you find yourself connecting to systems frequently that have the same content between local and the FTP server consider using synchronized browsing mode.
This makes navigating around the FTP server one-to-one.
When you change folder you are in, either on the server or locally, the interface also navigates around with your changes.
To enable this go up to view and then turn on synchronized browsing.
If you want these options to be enabled when you first connect to the server, you can use site manager. You can add the connection here and then click on the advanced tab over on the right.
You can turn on synchronized browsing and directory comparison right here. Now when you connect, these options will be automatically enabled.
