Pyramidal Neuron - Layer 5
A big pyramidal neuron. These are the main excitatory cells of the brain. The surface of the brain is a sort of stack of 6 layers. Th depths have different ratios of different families of cells; different synapses and channels of information processed. A single cell like this has well over 5,000 synapses, changing as time goes on.
This neuron comes from deep in Layer 5, just a hop away from white matter, the super highways of connectivity between different regions of the brain. The neuron's axon myelinates and exits the volume, venturing off into other brain realms. Zipping and zapping its action potentials into action of the huge body it does its small part to control. It is one of the largest neurons in the brain.
