Lab overview:
In this lab, you immerse yourself in the AWS development cycle by using two of the AWS developer tools: AWS CodeCommit and AWS CodeBuild. You start by connecting to an AWS Cloud9 integrated development environment (IDE) and clone a CodeCommit repository (repo). Then, you edit a Java application and use AWS CodeCommit to securely store your changes by pushing the updated files to the repo. By using the AWS CodeBuild console, you run a build project that automates the next steps: building your application, generating a .jar file, and storing it in an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) artifacts bucket. After the build project finishes, you copy the .jar file to the AWS Cloud9 IDE and run the .jar file. This exercise offers a comprehensive look into modern AWS backend development workflows by underscoring best practices and the power of integration.
You have done the following:
• Used the AWS Cloud9 IDE to clone a CodeCommit repo and edit the code used in this lab.
• Understood the utility of CodeCommit, and were able to commit and push code changes to the CodeCommit repository.
• Recognized the integration between CodeCommit and CodeBuild, and observed the automatic build process in action.
• Retrieved a .jar file from an S3 bucket and ran it in the AWS Cloud9 IDE.
