Broken javascript alert() function

I tried popping up an alert box to show me what was in a variable, and instead, this happened! I can make an alert that says "hi" with no problem, but as soon as I try to look at the variable, it does this.

I have a dual-monitor setup with one rotated 90 degrees, which is why the screen looks like this.
