Validation is the automatic computer check of data at the point of entry with the aim of trying to ensure that the data entered is realistic and sensible.
Validation is important because trying to resolve issues with garbage data after the point of entry is difficult. Garbage data may also cause your programs to crash.

Verification is a method of trying to ensure that data is correctly copied from one medium to another.
