In this video we look at two introductory bash scripts that work with the output of the date command. In the first script we show a variety of options to picking out different parts of the date and time that result from the date command. In the second script we look at two techniques for extracting a value from the date command and assigning it to a variable
year=$(date +%Y)
year=`date +%Y`
