We demonstrate how to load data from a local database into Snowflake using WhereScape RED. The process begins by creating a connection to the source database, where users can customize settings, such as excluding views. The interface allows users to browse the source data, view row counts, and even preview the data directly.
The loading process is simple and intuitive—dragging the table to the target destination triggers a wizard that guides users through adding metadata and handling naming standards, data type mappings, and target locations. WhereScape RED offers flexibility in scripting, allowing users to select different languages, such as Python, instead of default PowerShell scripts.
Behind the scenes, WhereScape RED creates the necessary tables and scripts in Snowflake, loads the data, and runs everything in real-time, providing transparency into the process. The system extracts data, compresses it, uploads it to Snowflake’s external storage, and uses Snowflake’s COPY command to complete the data loading. The user can easily verify the data in Snowflake at the end of the process.
