For the longest time, growing up with Poland Syndrome has negatively impacted me. When I was younger, I remember I hated swimming classes; classmates sometimes would make fun of me for being obese and my imbalanced chest. I was conscious of how others viewed me, and I became the kid with the top on during swimming classes. A few years back, I started going to the gym and doing bodybuilding, and it has for sure made my already existing body dysmorphia worse—the struggles and the inner voices consumed every single bit of me. Then, one day, I came across @itsgunnaranderson on my Instagram feed; seeing him talking about his fitness journey so freely got me wondering, “Why do I hate my self-image so much?” I started realising how much I compare myself to others, but instead, I should have been accepting who I was and learning to love myself. From that point onward, I started to see myself as who I am and am proud of all my minor victories. Instead of slating my flaws, I learned to love them. For the past two years, I was fortunate to have a supportive friend group to help me through the journey; their every bit of compliment and positive feedback has helped me a lot!😭
