Welcome, everyone, to my channel, Space Remote Sensing and GIS. Today, we have an exciting lecture on "Generating Mining Area Contours and 3D Models with UTM DGPS Data."
In this video, we will guide you through the process of transforming UTM DGPS data collected from a mining area into useful visualizations. The data was collected in UTM projection, which stands for Universal Transverse Mercator—a coordinate grid system divided into 60 zones, each 6 degrees of longitude wide.
First, we'll show you how to convert this UTM data into a point shapefile. Following this, we'll use the kriging interpolation technique to generate a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from the DGPS point file, which includes x, y, and z values.
Once we have the DEM, we'll convert the 2D surface into a 3D surface using ArcGIS Pro. Using the spatial analysis tools, we'll apply the contour tool to generate contours at 1-meter intervals over the surface. We'll then remove the given 3D surface and use our created DEM as the elevation surface in a 3D window. Additionally, we'll label the contours, create a surface profile of the 3D mining area, and calculate the volume of that area.
Finally, I'll demonstrate how to automate this entire process using ModelBuilder in ArcGIS Pro. This video is aimed at professionals in the mining sector and will be incredibly helpful for your projects.
