Docker for Data Scientists
DOCKER!! This is hands down my favorite buzz word of 2019!
If you’ve been living in the realms of data science or software, you may have heard the terms “Docker” or “containers” for programs.
Whether you already know something about Docker or nothing at all, my goal in this Meetup is to get you up and running fast with a very thorough, visual presentation on how the technology works. Time permitting, we’ll install Docker together and work through a few common use cases that can get you thinking about how to apply this to your own work.
For those of us who love machine learning, it is **critical** to understand how the models we develop can be “deployed” into production to shine before the world. Docker is a powerful tool that not only provides data scientists with many solid options for model/script deployment, but can also speed up the entire development process.
I’d also like to mention that more and more aspects of data science are becoming automated—especially the use of the standard plug’n play ML techniques that show up in “Hello World” courses all over the internet. Strengthening our engineering skills is hopefully a way that we can increase our job security as the bar in this competitive space continues to rise.
