Tutorial: How to SSH into your Asus Tinker Edge T (ATET) from your Host PC (works with both Windows and Linux)
First, you'll need Python 3 installed on your Host PC. Then install Mendel Development Tool in Command Prompt / Terminal:
python -m pip install --user mendel-development-tool
Then connect your Asus Tinker Edge T (ATET) via USB-C to your Host PC (Windows / Linux), and type in:
mdt devices
This will check for the devices connected on your network - it should return the device name and IP of your Tinker Edge T.
Then type in:
mdt shell
This will connect your Host PC to the board.
If you get this error: WARNING: The script mdt.exe is installed in 'C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Roaming\Python\Python39\Scripts' which is not on PATH
It means you'll need to add the folder to your Environment Variables - your path will probably vary from mine.
If you get this error:
--------------------
It looks like you're trying to connect to a device that isn't connected to your workstation via USB and doesn't have the SSH key this MDT generated. To connect with 'mdt shell' you will need to first connect to your device ONLY via USB.
Cowardly refusing to attempt to push a key to a public machine.
--------------------
It means your Tinker Edge T isn't on the same network as your Host PC - to fix this, double check you're connected on the same network (e.g., if your router has a 2.4G & 5.2G hotspot, check both devices are both on the same hotspot).
If you're still getting the error, then disconnect the USB cable from the Host PC, reconnect it, and re-run 'mdt devices'. This should trigger the Tinker Edge T IP address to a 192.168 address which will allow you to connect.
If you get this error:
--------------------
Couldn't establish ssh connection to device: socket error: [WinError 10060] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond
--------------------
Just try 'mdt shell' again.

The Asus Tinker Edge T is part of the Tinker Board Single Board Computer (SBC) family. However, this board that can perform Computer Vision Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning inference (i.e., Image Classification, Object Detection, Segmentation, Pose Estimation) with the same level of performance that you'd find in an expensive desktop computer. It can achieve this because it contains a special chip called an "Edge TPU" (Tensor Processing Unit) that specialises in calculating AI and Deep Learning algorithms which can also be found in a Google Coral Dev Board.
