This JavaScript tutorial for beginners teaches you how to extract a new string from an original string using the string substr method. In this method, the substr() is appended to the original string to get an extracted new string which follows the rules: The first parameter in the round brackets will be the index position from which the search and extraction starts and the second parameter is the number of characters to be extracted for forming the new string. If the first parameter is negative, then the search is conducted in the reverse direction but extraction will be in forward direction as explained in the video tutorial. If the second parameter is zero, then, you will end up with an empty string as, zero means for the second parameter, zero number of string characters to be extracted. For all rules, please refer to the video tutorial in detail and please watch the tutorial until the end so that you are very clear of this string method.
