Microfiltration (MF) or Ultrafiltration (UF) using cross flow filtration is a low pressure (0.7 -- 7 bar, 10-100 psig) separation process for removal of solids from aqueous solutions by means of a membrane. The process solution (feed) enters a concentration tank and is then sent under pressure to the Porex TMF module(s) for filtration. Particulate matter larger than the membrane pore size is filtered out and returned in the process stream to the concentration tank. The filtered clean water (permeate or filtrate) that passes though the Porex TMF membrane is sent for reuse/recycle in the facility or discharge to drain. As solids concentration increases in the concentration tank, the solids are sent to a thickener for further processing and/or dewatering.

At regular intervals, a short "backwash" process (10-20 seconds) reverses the flow and sends clean permeate back through the membrane to dislodge any accumulated particles from the membrane surface. This restores maximum flow through the membrane surface. To learn more or to contact us, visit www.porexfiltration.com/downloads/metal-contaminated-wastewater-treatment/.
