MSSQL Data Validation Examples: Text Fields
This video walks you through 24 text field data validation test case examples. There are validation tests for nulls and nullstrings, no leading or trailing spaces, in or not in a value ilst, and text field length. There are upper case, lower case, alpha, and numeric characters checks. There are bad characters tests for single quotes, quotes, carriage returns, line feeds, tabs, non-breaking-spaces, em-dashes, vertical tabs, form feeds, next lines, and many other funky character intercepts. There is a validation test for only allowing or only disallowing specific characters in a [list] you specify. Finally there are "soft" data conversion tests to verify a text field is numeric or one of many different date formats so you can intercept and notify with a rejection code prior to converting and erroring.
You can refactor and re-use the samples in your projects. The scripts in the demo are all out on Github along with 66 total sample validation tests along with a basic and an advanced script for automating the tests.
