Bubble sort is a simple sorting algorithm that repeatedly steps through a list of elements, compares adjacent pairs, and swaps them if they are in the wrong order. This process is repeated until no more swaps are needed, indicating that the list is sorted. The algorithm is named for the way smaller elements "bubble" to the top of the list while larger elements "sink" to the bottom. Although straightforward and easy to implement, bubble sort is inefficient for large lists due to its O(n^2) time complexity, where n is the number of elements. Its primary use today is often educational, illustrating basic sorting concepts and algorithm design.
