n this Session 66 of the Junior Programmer Series, we learn Version Control — the safest way to manage Unity projects whether you’re working solo or with a team.
You’ll understand what version control (source control) really means, why backups alone aren’t enough, and how tools like Git + GitHub prevent lost work, overwrites, and messy “final_v3” project folders. Then we go hands-on and set up a Unity project repository using GitHub Desktop (no command line needed):
✅ Create a GitHub account
✅ Install & sign in to GitHub Desktop
✅ Create a new repository with Unity .gitignore
✅ Add Unity project files and make your first commit
✅ Publish the repo to GitHub (cloud backup)
✅ Open the project in Unity Hub, handle version conversion, and commit Unity’s generated changes
✅ Understand push vs pull, merge, and merge conflicts
Finally, we preview the resource management simulation project we’ll use to practice Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in upcoming sessions.
📌 Next session: We’ll learn how to pull/clone the project onto another machine and continue development safely.
