This is How to use Ableton Live's Beat Repeat and elements of your project to create Download Shifting Break Downs and Pitch Rising Build Ups!
The beat repeat effect can be a really fun dj tool! We all know how to use it to get some cool shuddering effects. What some don't know is how to use it to make break downs and build ups. The cool thing about it... it is really easy to do!

Step 1
First find an element of your track that you might want to use for this effect. I find that percussion or hats & cymbals work best, but Vocals or Mid Bass might work well too! For the example in the video tutorial I use a crash cymbal. The only thing I do to it is pitch it up an octave ( +12 ), as I found that the higher pitch works better for this project.
Step 2
Drop the Beat Repeat Audio Effect onto the Track. You will only need to change two settings if you are using the default device settings.
Set the Interval to 1/32
Set the Pitch Decay to ~7.14%
Step 3
Now all you need to do is auto the Repeat parameter to come on for about the first 1/16 of the sample. Make sure to leave plenty of room for the repeating to happen.
Step 4
Reverse Clip / Sample
Freeze and Flatten the Channel.
Step 5 – 7
Take a 4 bar section and Crop Clip(s).
Duplicated the Clip
On the second 4 bar clip hit the Reverse
Step 8
On the second clip that has been reversed you will want to add an addition transpose automation effect in side the clip itself. I suggest going 1 octave ( +12 semitones ) . You can also add a bit of a curve to the line!
