JDK (Java Development Kit) is a set of programs, files, and pre-built classes required for Java development. The JDK includes the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and the JVM (Java Virtual Machine).
The JRE (Java Runtime Environment) is the programs and files required to run Java programs on a computer. Prior to JDK11, the JRE was available as a separately installable package. In modern versions of Java, running Java programs requires downloading and installing the full JDK.
The JVM (Java Virtual Machine) is a program designed to execute bytecode—the code obtained after compiling *.java files containing Java code written by a programmer. JVMs are developed separately for each operating system or device.
