To achieve more complex layouts where you want to place elements next to each other horizontally or vertically take advantage of hidden tables.

Create a nested table within the master table and put there merge fields. You can merge table cells to get the desired layout.

Finally just remove border for the nested table.

You can nest as many tables as you need to achieve very complex layouts.
