How to Do Java Side Debugging Part 2
To use the debugger in STS IDEA, follow these steps:
1) Add a breakpoint to your code. This can be done by clicking in the left margin of the editor next to the line number where you want to pause execution.
2) Open the Debug tool window. You can do this by going to View --- Tool Windows --- Debug.
3) Start a debugging session. This can be done by clicking on the debug icon in the toolbar or by going to Run ---- Debug.
4) Run your application. Your application will execute until it reaches the breakpoint, at which point execution will pause.
5) Now you can examine the state of your application. The Debug tool window will display the current execution stack, which you can navigate by selecting a stack frame from the drop-down list at the top of the window. The variables for the selected stack frame will be displayed in the Variables window, which is usually located to the right of the Debug window.
6) You can step through your code using the Step Over, Step Into, and Step Out buttons in the Debug tool window or by going to Run ---- Step Over, Step Into, or Step Out.
7) When you're finished debugging, you can stop the debugging session by clicking on the stop icon in the Debug tool window or by going to Run ---- Stop.
It's important to note that while the debugger is paused, the application is effectively frozen, so make sure to keep the duration of each debugging session as short as possible.
