There are tens of million of repositories on GitHub. Only a small fraction of these become successful. But what factors determine if a project works out? Are there leading indicators of success? In this talk, we use Scala and Plotly to extract metrics on the growth of tens of thousands of repositories to identify leading indicators of success. We explore correlations between numbers of contributors, numbers of downloads and numbers of stars, the quality and length of commit messages and how quickly contributors respond to pull requests.
Beyond the analysis, this talk describes how to build Plotly plots with the Scala Plotly client.
