In Python, "strings" are a data type used to represent text. A string is a sequence of characters enclosed in either single quotes (`'`) or double quotes (`"`). Strings are immutable, meaning once they are created, their contents cannot be changed.

Strings support various operations like concatenation, slicing, and formatting, and they come with a variety of methods to manipulate or analyze the text, such as finding substrings, replacing characters, or changing the case of the text.
