King Parameters - Revit Advanced Tutorial
Most Revit tutorials skip this entirely — but picking the wrong parameter data type early will cost you hours of rework across every project.
In this video I introduce the concept of King Parameters: instance parameters that check all three boxes at once — they vary per group, work on the condition side of an IF formula, and display without a default unit symbol.
We go through each filter one by one:
Why popular types like Number, Length, Integer, Slope, and Yes/No fail the vary-per-group test
What Autodesk actually allows on the condition side of an IF statement
Which data types look broken in schedules due to unit symbols or minimum value restrictions
Why Distance is the best all-round substitute — and when Reinforcement Cover or Spacing make sense instead
The null-by-default trap that will make your IF formulas silently return empty cells
