In this animation we will be examining the use of the basic MATH instructions available for PLC. The four basic MATH functions are ADD (Add), SUB (Subtract), MUL (Multiply) and DIV (Divide). Each of these instructions have three inputs; Source, Source B and Destination Field. The block diagram for all these instructions is shown in the video.
The Source and Source B field for these instructions can be populated with input location, file address, instruction field or a fixed value while the destination field for these instructions can be populated with output location, file address or instruction field.
Definition of basic MATH instructions is as under,
ADD: This instruction adds the Source to Source B and stores the result at the destination address.
SUB: This instruction subtracts Source B from Source and stores the result at the destination address.
MUL: This instruction is used to multiply the Source and Source B values and the result is stored at destination address.
DIV: This instruction divides the Source by Source B and stores the result at destination address.
The video describes the practical application on how these instructions are used. All these MATH instructions can be used in a ladder logic diagram and further ladder logic programming can be learnt using the LogixPro simulation software provided free with the PLC Technician course offered by George Brown College.
