TypeScript & OpenAI API: Project Setup Essentials
Welcome back! In this session, we'll guide you through setting up your system to run TypeScript projects for the OpenAI API Developer Certification course. 💻
We'll focus on running TypeScript applications from the command line using Node.js, avoiding the complexities of larger web frameworks to keep our focus on core OpenAI API concepts.
This setup includes installing:
Node.js: The JavaScript runtime to execute our TypeScript code.
NPM: The Node Package Manager for installing and managing project dependencies.
TypeScript: For writing and compiling our code that calls the OpenAI APIs.
VS Code Editor: Our recommended IDE for development.
You'll also need a paid OpenAI account and an OpenAI API key to access the APIs. We'll show you how to obtain your Organization ID and Project API key.
🔑 All course code samples are available on GitHub, and familiarity with a terminal or command prompt is highly recommended.
We'll explain the roles of Node.js, NPM (including development vs. global packages), and how to use npm install for both.
