Hello There Youtube and with it most of the world!
in this video i talk a bit about map making tools!
2 main types:
in game
exterior.
in game:
1)worldedit ( http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/... )
+ideal for structures
+mirroring
+copy pasting
+replacing blocks
+moving trough things
+remembers brushes
-not good for terrain
-not good for organics
2)Voxelsniper ( http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/... )
+ideal for organics
+ideal for terrain
+many ways of altering large numbers of blocks
+arrow/gunpowder are each others opposite
-brushes need to be changed every time
-undoing generally is harder
-is not fit for minute detailing
3) generators (multiple links)
+usable to easily make in game redstone commands that otherwise woudl take WAY too long to figure out and type correctly.
-require an internet connection
exterior:
4) MCedit ( http://www.mcedit.net/ )
+fit for HUGE operations
+easy trans- world movement of builds via schematics
+custom filters that let u alter more then vanilla can
-somewhat difficult to manouver in
-cannot be opened with minecraft simultaneously, risk corrupt worlds
-brushes for terrain are limited
4)Binvox (OBJtoMC) ( http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~min/binvox/ )
if u have 3d modeling experience, this is a great program
+make 3d files of ANYTHING into minecraft schematics
+humongous timesaver
-needs 3d modeler experience + 3dprogram
-buggy
-schematics need to be rotated around allways
-schematics often wotn be the size you need, thus redoing
5)NBTedit ( http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/... )
+allows u to color worldnames
+allows u EXTREME detailed controll over every item/entity in the map
-can EASILY corrupt your world
-is not straightforward to use at first
