If you want to use Microsoft remote desktop access in a WAN(Wide Area Network) environment then it requires a lot more effort, like configuring port forwarding on your router. With Google Chrome Remote Desktop, all you need is a Google Internet Browser. There are other options, like XRDP on Linux, which enables you to connect to a Linux based computer on Microsoft Windows. It's limited.

Google Chrome remote desktop access can be used on any computer as long as it has Google Chrome, and a Google gmail account which it can sync to. The bandwidth of the connection will depend on the host computer, or the computer you are connecting to. If you have good bandwidth in terms of upload, the better your connect will be. You can download and upload files to and from the computer you are connecting to. The good thing about this is that, it is simple to use.

Before you set this up, make sure you have two factor 2 factor authentication setup on your smartphone to secure your Google Gmail account.
