Basic Android TV App Development with NVIDIA SHIELD
This video covers the basics of bringing your Android app to Android TV (ATV) and some NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV features. It focuses on non-gaming apps like multimedia, video and streaming apps, but the techniques are generally applicable to games as well. The session starts with quick ways to deploy a non-Android TV app to Android TV (unsing ADB sideloading or NVIDIA’s NSight Tegra, Visual Studio Edition). This session focuses on:
UI layouts in Android Studio and XML for Android TV
Focus-based UIs
Gamepad- and remote-only interaction
The interaction section deals with:
Custom widget focus
Disabling focus of specific UI elements
Testing tips for controller-only interaction
At the end of the process, a previously non-Android TV app should be fully usable on Android TV.
