Minecraft Log4j exploit: Aftermath
In this video I am demonstrating just how big of an impact Log4j exploit had on Minecraft servers in Russia.
For the first 5 days after exploit discovery, a huge portion of computers was still vulnerable. This is unacceptable, I believe. Me and my friends had assembled a team to spread awareness about the exploit by shutting down the computer of vulnerable player, while opening a link to the instruction on how to fix the vulnerability. Here's how it went.
In total, we managed to hit more than 6.000 unique computers, becoming one of the most popular Minecraft Log4j exploits worldwide and the most popular Minecraft Log4j exploit in Russia. We are being contacted by people affected by our exploit, and we are helping everyone to implement proper protections to prevent such attacks. It's not hard to imagine the impact of such attack if the exploit was to be abused by blackhat hackers!
