Whenever you want to use variables or such things in your C program inside the argument of the library functions(like printf, scanf, etc). You will need format specifier to specifies it's data-type otherwise you won't be able to run that program without getting an error.

In this video I'll be talking about the format specifier, what is it, how to use it, constraints that you can put on them, ... , etc.
