In this video, we'll start by ensuring a smooth installation process for Vim. Avoid frustrating issues by following these steps:
1. Open your terminal and run the command: "sudo apt install".
2. Enter your password when prompted.
3. Install Vim by running: "sudo apt install vim".

Vi, the visual editor, is a built-in program that comes with the UNIX system. However, it's essential to perform the installation to avoid any functionality problems. I personally experienced difficulties using Vi without installing Vim, such as the backspace key not working and random alphabets appearing when using arrow keys. These issues were resolved after I installed Vim using "sudo apt install vim".

Let's dive into the exciting world of Vi and Vim! There are two main modes to be aware of:

1. Command mode: Activate this mode by pressing the ESC button. In command mode, you can perform various actions on your files, including turning on insert mode.

2. Insert mode: Switch to this mode using shortcuts like i, o, a, I, O, or A. In insert mode, you can enter and edit text. Pressing ESC will take you back to command mode.

Get ready to enhance your editing skills with these essential commands for Vi and Vim editors:

Opening and Exiting Vi:
To open or create a file with Vi, use the command: "vi filename"
In case of a sudden file closure, recover it using: "vi -r filename"
Save and quit Vi by entering: ":x Enter".
To save modifications and exit, use: ":wq Enter"
Quit Vi without saving changes with: ":q Enter"
Forcibly quit Vi without saving changes: ":q! Enter"

Moving the Cursor:
Move the cursor down in command mode: j, Enter, or the arrow.
Move the cursor up in command mode: k or the arrow.
Move the cursor left in command mode: h or the backspace key.
Move the cursor right in command mode: l or the space key.
Navigate in all directions using the arrows in both command and insert modes.
Jump to the start of the current line: 0.
Jump to the end of the line: $.
Move to the beginning of the next word: w.
Move back to the beginning of the preceding word: b.
Go to the beginning or first line of the file: ":0 Enter".
Move the cursor to line n: ":n Enter".
Jump to the last line of the file: ":$ Enter".
Scroll forward one screen: Ctrl+f.
Scroll backward one screen: Ctrl+b.
Undo the previous action using: u.

Editing Commands:
Delete a single character under the cursor: x.
Delete N characters starting from the cursor: Nx.
Delete the word beginning with the character under the cursor: dw.
Delete N words beginning with the character under the cursor: ndw.
