Is Linux really allocating memory while a program calls malloc? What are the different ways to configure the Linux kernel for memory allocation?

/proc/sys/vm/overcommit_memory variable is a way to configure the Linux kernel to simply acknowledge without actually allocating memory. We demonstrate it with a simple C program. With this config enabled, this program could able to allocate 131 thousand GB of memory, which is imposible.
